The Sims 4 Apocalypse Challenge is Coming

Inspired by the Boston Scenario of the original Sim City, The Apocalypse Challenge starts things with a bang!

Originally created in The Sims 2, the Apocalypse Challenge challenged your Sim to move in to a region devastated by a nuclear disaster and rebuild it from within. This challenge is getting a full update for The Sims 4 that will be released before the end of the month.

The challenge features a laundry list of restrictions that make life difficult for your Sims, but with a catch. While most challenges that you play have rules and restrictions that apply for the whole challenge, the Apocalypse Challenge’s restrictions are temporary. Through in-game actions you are able to remove various restrictions from your sims, making life a little easier as you play. However, this challenge introduces strategic elements to it. Lifting one restriction means NOT lifting another until later, thus you must plan out carefully your family’s plan of action.

The Apocalypse Challenge is larger in scope than the Wonder Child Challenge, but smaller in scope than the Legacy Challenge. Those of you who have played the original Apocalypse Challenge will find similarities between the two, but the Sims 4 version has been created from the ground up to cater to the game’s mechanics and flow, as well as the vastly different set of careers available.

The challenge is being balanced and tested to allow owners of both the Outdoor Retreat pack and non-owners to participate in the challenge with neither type of player having an advantage over the other.

Like with my previous challenges, expect a full post, full rules, and a ‘getting started’ video to be released as well.

As a small hint of what is to come, let me give you just ONE of the many removable restrictions that this challenge will feature:

Criminal – Boss

The one thing that wasn’t destroyed by the blast was the local mob. With law enforcement severely weakened and unable to maintain order, the mob has volunteered itself to ‘protect’ the residents. The upside is that burglaries are non-existent. The downside is that this ‘protection’ has a price – everything you made that week. Residents are in such bad shape, that saying ‘no’ is not an option.

Whenever you are due to pay bills, pay them (if able) and then reduce your household funds to $0 using the money cheat. (Open cheat console with ctrl-c then enter ‘Testing Cheats on’ without the quotes and hit enter. Then ‘Money 0’ without the quotes and hit enter). You may not spend any money while you have outstanding bills or once the mail carrier appears on the lot until the bills are paid and the household funds reduced to 0.

Completion

Beating the mob is not an option, but if you can’t beat them, join them. As the big boss in charge, the mob plays by your Sim’s  rules. And their rules say ‘no protection payments are to be drawn from my family for life’. And when the boss speaks, the goons listen.

So expect your family’s funds to be sapped until one of the members becomes the big boss themselves. Is this a priority restriction you want to remove as soon as possible? Or are there others that might be more pressing? The choice will be yours, this is just one of MANY restrictions that will plague your household until you are able to lift them, one by one.

this looks great… can’t wait!

I should do a Sims 2 Apoc challenge sometime…I have a lot of things I keep meaning to do but never get around to it.

Oh gosh. This sounds TERRIFYING. lol. Can’t wait to see the full challenge! 🙂

I have been waiting for this. sounds good. Can’t wait for all the rules. If we have to go 0 every week to pay the mob, how will we live.
Will be interesting to find out.

Hopefully by the end of the month! We’re still doing some playtesting on it. If not the end of this month, then definitely the beginning of February.

Sooooo excited to play this! I think it’s great that you are starting from scratch too, since the Sims 4 is so different from the Sims 2. Yay!

I am part of the facebook group that converted the TS2 Apocalypse Challenge to TS3 and we are all very excited to see the new rules for TS4! You do an awesome job of working it out. 🙂

Looks good so far 🙂 Let me know when it’s all done so I can link it from the TS3AC site.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! My favorite Sims challenge of all time! You rock, Pinstar!

Sweet. I love the Apocalypse Challenge. It was the second file I created in SIMS 4. I didn’t have a strong enough idea or understanding of the game to make it work though. I’m so excited.

Would you consider looking at the Build A City Challenge and creating a version for SIMS 4? I like that one too.

We haven’t heard of the Build A City Challenge, but we’ll look into it! Thanks 🙂
