The Movin’ On Up Legacy Challenge Rules

A commenter named Aria mentioned that they were looking to combine the Legacy Challenge with the Movin’ On Up Challenge. This gave us the idea to make official rules for this combo of challenges for others to try as well!

If you decide you want to participate in this new type of Legacy Challenge you can choose to either use the Legacy Challenge Lite rules or the regular Legacy rules. It is all up to personal preference and how much point tracking you would like to do.

NOTE: This version of the Legacy Challenge requires the City Living* expansion pack as your Sims will be living in apartments for the duration of the challenge.

Starting the Challenge

To begin the Movin’ On Up Legacy Challenge you will make your founder as you normally would in a regular Legacy Challenge. You may create them with any aspiration and trait combination that you want. However, instead of moving your founder into a large lot in one of the neighborhoods, you will start them in the first apartment on the Movin’ Up Challenge apartment list. Make sure to rent the apartment unfurnished.

Once moved in, make sure to use the money cheat to set your Sim’s funds to §0. Unlike the Legacy Challenge where you start off with §1800, you will start with nothing in this mashup challenge to add to the difficulty.

Playing the Challenge

Here are the basic rules of playing a Movin’ On Up Legacy:

  • The Sim will start in the apartment 1313 21 Chic Street. It must be rented unfurnished. Upon moving in your Sim’s funds must be brought down to §0 with the money cheat (see How To Start A Sims 4 Legacy Challenge on how to do this)
  • Choose whichever Succession Laws you wish for your Legacy.
  • Your Sim may earn money in any way you wish (jobs, gathering, fishing, crafting etc). No cheats may be used after the initial money cheat to bring down your Sim’s funds.
  • You may choose any lot traits and challenges that you wish for your apartments.
  • Every apartment must be fully furnished with all functional items (bathrooms must have toilets, showers etc, bedrooms must have beds, kitchens need counters, fridge, oven etc, living room, etc) before moving into the next apartment. You cannot keep your apartment empty to save money.
  • You cannot move in a spouse until your Sim has successfully paid their first month of rent and there is a bed for them to sleep in (either a double bed for both Sims or an extra single bed). Only one spouse may be moved in per generation. Your Sim’s spouse may have a job.
  • Once your Sim has the first week’s rent and deposit for the next apartment on the list and they have fully furnished the previous apartment (ie they have furniture in every room and each room has a purpose) they can move on to the next apartment. You must stay in every apartment long enough to pay the first week’s rent. You cannot simply move into one apartment and then quickly move into the next if you can afford it! This will prevent the challenge from moving too quickly.
  • Every apartment must be rented unfurnished. Your Sim must take all of their furniture from their old apartment with them and not choose “sell all furniture” when moving.
  • When your Sim has children make sure to follow the Legacy Challenge rules and the Succession Laws that you chose. Each Sim must have their own bed to sleep in even if there isn’t a bedroom for them. (some apartments might start getting crowded depending on your Succession Laws!)
  • No restarting the game after bad events
  • You cannot change the aspirations of your Sims.
  • You may not bring a Sim back from the dead. You may, however, plead with the Reaper to keep them alive.
  • Heirs must remain living in the current apartment that your family is living in. They cannot move out. Spares may move out so that you can make more room for other Sims in the family.
  • You may not play other families on this save. Only the Legacy family.
  • All children must have their traits and aspirations randomly chosen with the Random Trait Generator.
  • Toddler traits can be rolled on the Toddler Trait Generator
  • Anti-Aging items may be used only once per Sim.
  • Since your family will be living in San Myshuno your Sim may keep the City Living aspiration if they roll it on the Random Trait Generator.
  • Since there is no scoring for the Movin’ On Up Challenge you can using the Legacy Challenge scoring system, or skip scoring entirely if playing the Legacy Challenge Lite version.
  • Supernatural Sims are allowed, but keep in mind that Vampires are immortal so you may need to figure out an alternative for them so they aren’t permanently taking a spot in the family.

Ending the Challenge

The challenge ends when your Legacy reaches Generation 10 and you have rented and fully furnished Torendi Tower (the most expensive apartment to rent). You will probably reach Torendi Tower before the 10th generation. If so, you may choose to either remain in Torendi Tower for the duration of the challenge, or purchase another lot in another neighborhood and build a custom house (or download one) from there.

Hi there,

When you say that Sims can may money in any way except cheats, does this include making money using the Tendi app on Sims’ phones?
