The Legacy Challenge Lite

The Legacy Challenge Lite is the same Legacy Challenge that you’ve always known and loved without the sometimes stressful and confusing scorekeeping and intricate rules.

If you are someone that enjoys the idea of the Legacy Challenge, but has always been too intimidated to try and wade through the pages of rules and scores, then this new Lite version will be perfect for you. Some parts of the challenge remain the same while others have either been altered or removed completely to give you a less complicated, but still entertaining, challenge.

There will be no scoring in this challenge. You will simply be trying to make it to 10 generations without cheats and to see how far you can go with one family.

Getting Started

  • Create your Sim in Create-A-Sim. You may choose any aspiration/traits that you wish.
  • Once the Sim is created move them onto any 50 x 50 or 64 x 64 lot of your choosing.
  • Once moved in you must cheat their money down to either §1800 (for a regular start) or §0 for an Extreme start. If you have Seasons and want an added challenge for an Extreme start, then start your Sim in winter.

Succession Laws

Succession Laws remain the same from the original Legacy Challenge. Simply choose your laws from that link.

Gameplay Rules

  • No cheats/hacks/mods that give you an advantage in the challenge over someone that does not use them (ie no “motherlode” or “kaching” to get more money)
  • No restarting the game after bad events. You must let them play out.
  • You may not move or merge in other Sims into the Legacy Family with the exception Sims that will aid in bringing in the next generation aka the “spouse”.
  • The Legacy Family must remain on the same lot for the duration of the challenge (this does not include vacations). They are free (and encouraged) to develop their house but they may not move into a new house. Rooms may be imported into the house from the exchange as long as the family pays full price for the construction and items contained within.
  • A Sim may utilize an anti-aging item ONCE in their lifetime.
  • You may not change a Sim’s current aspiration. The exception is when they fully complete an aspiration. When that happens, you may choose their new aspiration, as long as it is not one they’ve already completed.
  • You may not bring a Sim back from the dead once the reaper has taken them. You MAY plead with the reaper in order to save a recently dead Sim.
  • You may not move/marry out the sim who currently holds the title of ‘heir’. All of the other children in that generation (known as ‘spares’) may move or marry out. Once a sim moves out, they are ineligible to be heir, even if conditions change that might make them the rightful heir.
  • When playing a Legacy Challenge, your legacy family is the ONLY family you may play in that saved game. You MAY move in new families into the neighborhood during your challenge (keeping in mind that they can be used for friends, but not spouses) but you may not play them.
  • You must use the Random Trait Generator to get traits and aspirations for all children born/adopted into the family.

You may use any and all expansions, game packs, and stuff packs. You can freely choose how to use them (or not). Since you are no longer keeping score of you challenge, there is no need to have additional rules for these packs.

Moving in Other Sims

You may move in a primary “spouse” to help bring in the next generation. They can be any gender and your Sims do not need to be married for them to count. They just need to be living together. If the Sim that moves in brings money with them, make sure to cheat the money back down to what it was before they moved in. This “spouse” can have a job and do anything else your other Sims do within the household.

Having Children

Regardless of your succession law, you may always introduce children into your family via pregnancy (either natural or Science Baby) or adoption. (Bloodline law will determine which are eligible to be heirs). With the addition of The Sims 4 Get to Work alien babies can also be brought into the family via abduction. Children may only be adopted as infants. You may not adopt if there are any infants (natural born or adopted) living in the house at the time and must wait for them to grow to toddlers before adopting a new one. You may rename the baby, and it is recommended (but not required) that you change their last name to the Legacy Family’s name.

Regardless of their status, when an infant ages up into a toddler, you must roll for their toddler trait (and later their aspiration and their first trait using the calculator found here when they become a child). Be sure to put the traits of the two parents (even for adopted children) in the calculator because the algorithm it uses factors those in when generating random traits for the children. When the child grows into a teenager, you consult the calculator again for their teen aspiration and their second trait. Finally the calculator will be used to generate the third trait upon reaching young adulthood. If your Sim reaches their Teenager aspiration before adulthood you can choose to use the assigned adult aspiration for some added randomness, or choose your own.

There is an option here to generate both aspirations and all three traits for a sim at once, though the proper method is to wait until the Sim ages up. And remember- No re-rolling! One of the hallmarks of this challenge is getting randomly generated children so you should keep the good with the bad. Since the traits of the parents have an influence on the traits of their children, you can try to engineer children by selecting spouses with desirable traits, but this is no guarantee.

You are allowed to use fruit and/or music to influence the gender of an unborn child, should you choose to do so.

The addition of Toddlers should not change the flow of your Legacy families, you just have a new age to deal with.

Ending the Challenge

The challenge ends with the birth of the 10th generation heir. For fun, see how much your family’s net worth is by the end of the challenge!

The challenge will fail if the founder or heir dies without another suitable heir to take over.

It says here that you can’t move in Sims to be spouses, but in the original rules you can?

It says that you can’t move in or merge any family to the Legacy Family *except* spouses.

No, you can still move in spouses. It says that you can’t move anyone in unless they will be the spouse.

Thank you very much for making this. Ive never cared for the idea of a point system

The lite version is amazing, thank you for posting! Too many points and things to keep track of in the original challenge that it defeats the purpose of playing a game for FUN, at least for me!

Thank you! I’ve been using it myself because I also never really enjoyed using the points system (it was always more Pinstar’s thing) so I convinced him to make this version so that people like me could play it without worrying about keeping track of points.

I love this! However can you use a cheat to change the way your sim looks like?
I mean, what if you really don’t like the way they look? Not dramatically but just a little bit?

Yeah cheats for cosmetic changes are fine! You just can’t use cheats that will make gameplay easier (ie money cheats, mood cheats, skill cheats etc)

Is it mandatory to buy the knight of the octagon table at the start of the challenge? I’m confused about this…

I forgot to add that I started the Extreme Weather Challenge, so I bought a 64×64 lot, started in Winter and set my funds to 0 (it’s quite tough, don’t recommend this start)…
Initially I understodd that the Knight was only for those who started on the get famous pack, but then I read somewhere that you needed to have the said knight right from the very start to increase your bills and it got really confusing…

You do not need to buy the Knight in the Lite version of the challenge.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for providing a pared down version of the rules. I play without scoring, so this is just what I need for reference. 🙂

Thank you so much for the lite version! I really really tried to get in to the original legacy challenge and I just can’t keep up with all of the points, rules, etc. It started to feel like a job rather than a fun game to play – I dunno, maybe I’m lazy lol. This is an awesome way to still feel like I’ve done the legacy challenge without exploding my brain. You guys rock! Maybe once I get the hang of it, I’ll try the regular version again – until then, lite is where it’s at! 🙂

The MCC mod is not allowed

i ment to say is the mcc allwed or not i am not sure i am trying a new way to spice up my game play

MCCC is allowed as it fixes some game issues that can cause problems with the challenge. I use it myself.

I have an Idea for an Variation of the Legacy Challenge Lite. My Idea is that the goal of the challenge is to master every skill possible and don’t have the Legacy Family work in a job. The only possibility to earn money is to sell selfmade things. The Rules stay the same like in the legacy challenge lite, the only difference that there is a different goal. I don’t want a generation limit for this challenge. I want the challenge to end when every skill possible was mastered, which means one Sim from the legacy family reached level 10 in it. But because I do not know every skill you can level up it would be nice if someone could make some kind of list of the skills. I just have this Idea and would like to see this as a variation of the Legacy Challenge Lite.

Sorry for my bad English. I’m from Germany.

Quick ? Can heirs go to university?

how to do the legacy game?????????/

What about the assassin requests from the path of legends mod? Would that contradict a way to earn money for my founder?

There is no prohibition on using a Money Tree in this document. Is this intended?

can you create a spouse/person in CAS to build a relationship with and become married, or do i have to find one from the NPC’s already in game?

would it work to do this for sims 3 :3

i might try this for the sims 3 x3

Firstly, thank you so much for the Lite version of this challenge! I’ve just started livestreaming my Legacy family yesterday, and didn’t realize this was a thing until I came back to reread the rules.

And now, I have a question about moving the families from the Gallery in.

I know that their purpose is to be used as strictly friends for the Heirs, as the number of children Sims dwindle as time goes on. However, is it allowed for the Heirs to have these imported children Sims potentially become their Spouse when they reach high school, or are we strictly required to only have the pre-generated children Sims as future Spouses for our Heirs?

I also had a question about using Spouse’s furniture after they move in the Legacy house (this happened when the Spouse was living alone, and I didn’t sell it when they moved in – oops!), but I assume that using their furniture is strictly prohibited. If I’m wrong about this assumption, please correct me!

Thank you for taking the time to read this! 👋😊❤

My understanding is you aren’t supposed to pick gallery sims specifically for spouses. If the sims have aged up from children or toddlers, I think they would be sufficiently randomized to be acceptable spouses.
I don’t know about the furniture though.

Hi, thank you so much for the lite version of the challenge. I wanted to play the normal one and read everything, but it is a little overwhelming. I think it is amazing to start with a simpler version and maybe play the more challenging one later. 😀
But a quick question about the spouses. In the normal version you said adding new spouses for the gallery (#LegacyLoves) was possible. But in this version it is said we can only add them to use as friends. This confuses me, seeing as the issue of the automatic generation is still there. Could you maybe clarify?
