Challenge Accepted! An Interview with Bsifx0692

Bsifx Interview

Hello everyone, and welcome to another Challenge Accepted! I thought it would be fun to get to know some of the Simmers that play the Legacy Challenge, Wonder Child Challenge, and/or Apocalypse Challenge (and any other challenges that we post here), so I am going to be sending out interview questions to Simmers to learn more about them and how they got into the Sims. If you would like to participate, please let me know!

This week’s Challenge Accepted! features Bsifx0692 a Sims Youtuber and Twitch streamer who focuses on several of the challenges found on this site. Bsifx is currently playing a Legacy Challenge and an Apocalypse Challenge (both for the Sims 4) on her Youtube channel, and also streams Sims 4 challenges on her Twitch channel. Here is what she has to say:

Mystic: When did you start playing The Sims?

I started playing shortly after the release of Sims 1, so that would be 2000. I played Sims 1, 3, and 4 on pc, but played Sims 2 on the Gamecube.

What made you decide to try the Legacy Challenge and/or other player-made challenges for the game?

Initially, while playing the Sims, I would just create a self-sim and live out her life. I rarely got past the second generation before growing bored. For me, Sims was extremely fun, but just didn’t have the staying power of other games. I think the main problem was lack of direction.

I used to be extremely active on Reddit, including lurking the Sims subreddit. I first saw the term “legacy” there, but didn’t realize it was an actual challenge. I created my own sort of legacy that I dubbed the rainbow legacy. Basically, I had a generation with hair in every color of the rainbow. I’m not sure if this can be done with Sims 4 due to lack of color wheel.

I eventually started reading up on various challenges and discovered the official legacy challenge and the rules. Since then I have been trying to complete it, but have only achieved generation 8, due to lost save files.

What is your favorite game and expansion pack for the franchise?

Honestly, despite the lost game issues, my favorite game so far is Sim 4. It’s beautiful and I love the emotion system. Sims 1 was enjoyable but extremely hard. Since I had console Sims 2, I didn’t really get the full experience, and never loved that game. I wanted to love Sims 3, but it crashed with even the best of computers, and all the microtransactions were extremely frustrating.

As far as expansions, I’m not really sure. The Sims 1 pet expansion was probably the most exciting for me. I loved traveling to the pet store and having little kittens and puppies. I think Sims 3 Island Paradise had the most potential, but unfortunately, Isla Paradisio was just too intense and crashed my computer. I couldn’t play any Sims 2 expansions due to the console version.

What is your favorite Sims challenge to Let’s Play/Stream/write about?

So far, my favorite my favorite challenge to publish is the Apocalypse Challenge. I like it because each episode has it’s own unique challenges. Legacies are tons of fun, but get somewhat repetitive playing generation after generation while trying to make the most successful sims possible. Plus, the Youtube commenters are more than ready to point out my mistakes and any rules that I may have overlooked.

Of all of your Sims, who is your favorite?

In Sims 1 my favorite family was by far the Goths. Sims 2 was probably my self-sim and her little family. Sims 3 was my color legacy. They had so many funny and touching moments. Sims 4 is my first legacy founder, Mariposa Azure.

Of all of the Sims games, what is your favorite lifetime wish/aspiration?

Renaissance Sim. It may be one of the hardest to achieve, but I love having a well-rounded sim with multiple skills. Plus all the rewards from different career paths are nifty.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions Bsifx!

The Sims 4 Get To Work: Retail Then and Now

Sales Socials have changed, these three are just the the introductory ones, many more become available once the customer is curious.

Sales Socials have changed, these three are just the the introductory ones, many more become available once the customer is curious.

(Below are my first impressions of The Sims 4: Get to Work. If you’d like to see the game in action, my wife, ImaginingMystic and I will be livestreaming an early access version of the game from EA on her Twitch.tv channel tonight at 8pm EST.)

When The Sims 4: Get To Work (aka GTW) was announced my number one point of excitement was the reintroduction to a *proper* business aspect. The Sims 2: Open for Business (aka OFB) is a stand-out in my mind as the greatest expansion pack of the entire Sims franchise because of the the gameplay it introduced. Comparing the old retail system of OFB with the new one introduced in Get To Work will be the topic of this article.

A Springboard For Another Challenge?

Sims 4 Apocalypse ChallengeIt is no secret that when I made the Wonder Child challenge, I had the Apocalypse Challenge in mind already. In the original Apocalypse Challenge, you began with a new Young Adult sim in College who was able to spend their time there restriction-free and thus be built up before having to brave the harshness of life in an Apocalypse Challenge.

The Sims 4 didn’t have that sort of mechanic yet. Oh sure, you could just download a sim off the exchange but you would want a sim that was built from the ground up to have as many skill points and traits as possible to maximize the benefit you received from them starting your Apocalypse Challenge.

So now, thanks to the Wonder Child Challenge, we have a healthy crop of brilliant young adults out there, waiting to brave the end of the world.

What if… What if we used them for something else? I’m toying with the notion that the Wonder Child challenge could lead into a business-based challenge where the wonder child is the entrepreneur. Thus they could potentially use some of their starting skills and traits to gain an edge in the business world.

Now I don’t know ALL the details of Get to Work (Sadly I was not invited to Creator’s Camp for this pack, and thus don’t have any early hands-on experience with the game). I can tell you that it will be more than just “Reach a max level business.”

What do you think about having your Wonder Child start a business? Do you think it would add to, or take away from a Business based challenge? Let me know your thoughts!

Getting Ready to Get To Work

Fan Email AssetIf you haven’t seen the trailers yet, or have been otherwise living under a rock, Get to work is slated to hit next month and with it will come some big things for the site. I will be updating all of my existing challenges to account for changes introduced by the new expansion pack. A brand NEW challenge will be introduced related to the business aspect of Get to Work.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates. There will be a little bit more of a delay between the release of the Get to Work and the release of my new challenge as I was not brought in to attend the Creator’s Camp event for this pack, so I haven’t had a hands-on experience with the game yet. But updates will be posted as I progress in crafting and developing the new challenge.

Weekly Stories List – Week of 3/2/2015

LegacyWeeklyStories3-2-2015

Hello everyone! Below are this week’s most recently updated Legacy Challenge & Wonder Child Stories for the week of 3/2/2015!

Please note: I’ve renamed this series as we have now added the Apocalypse Challenge to the list and that would make the title too long. This list still only reflects challenges created by us, and no other challenges.

Weekly Let’s Play List – Week of 3/2/2015

WeeklyList3-2-2015

Hello everyone and welcome to another Weekly Let’s Play List! Each week we will post a list of new Let’s Plays and chapters in separate posts so that you can check out what others are doing and stay up to date with them. I will be posting the Let’s Play list today and the written story list tomorrow (which means that the Let’s Play list will be posted each Monday and the writers list each Tuesday).

Please note, with the release of the Apocalypse Challenge, I have changed the name of this series to simply say “Weekly Let’s Play List” as the title would have been too long otherwise. This list is still only for challenges that Pinstar and I have created. We will not be including Let’s Plays of other challenges.

Here are the new episodes for the week of March 2, 2015:
