Challenge Accepted! An Interview with Starlight Sims

StarlightSims

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new series here at the Sims Legacy Challenge… Challenge Accepted! I thought it would be fun to get to know some of the Simmers that play the Legacy Challenge, Wonder Child Challenge, and/or Apocalypse Challenge (and any other challenges that we post here), so I am going to be sending out interview questions to Simmers over the next few weeks. If you would like to participate, please let me know!

Our first Challenge Accepted! interview is for Starlight Sims aka Whitney. She is a Sims Youtube Let’s Player and has many different active Let’s Plays going at the moment. She got her start on Youtube by doing a Let’s Play of her Sims 2 Legacy Family. Here is what she has to say:

Mystic: When did you start playing The Sims?
Whitney: I started playing The Sims when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I noticed my stepbrother playing one of the games in the franchise (I believe it was Bustin’ Out) so I went out and got my first Sims game – The Sims for Gamecube. I was absolutely horrible at it and my Sims could never stay alive for very long. The next year I got my hands on The Sims Complete Collection for PC and have been addicted ever since.
What made you decide to try the Legacy Challenge and/or other player-made challenges for the game?
I used to scroll through the forums on The Sims 2 website for fun and to see what other players were up to. I came across the Legacy Challenge and started reading all of the different stories that people created with their Sims and to see how detailed they were amazed me. I think that was when I realized that The Sims was really more than just a game. It opens the door for so many writers to make their Sims’ stories come to life and show the world their creativity. That really pulled me in and made me want to start my own Legacy Challenge.
What is your favorite game and expansion pack for the franchise?
My favorite overall has to be The Sims 2. I just feel like all of the expansion packs and stuff packs go perfectly together to create a really fun, cohesive game. It’s the little things in The Sims 2 that make it so special to me. As for my favorite expansion pack for the franchise, I’d probably have to say Open for Business. That expansion pack was so unique and, to this day, one of my favorite things to do in the game is create shops. At the moment, my current Sims own a holiday-themed business where they sell Christmas trees and all kinds of decorations and toys!
What is your favorite Sims challenge to Let’s Play/Stream/write about?
Definitely the Legacy Challenge because I think it makes for interesting stories. Though I wouldn’t necessarily classify myself as a “writer”, I do enjoy writing about my Legacy Challenge Sims and their background stories. Plus the rules for the challenge keep it interesting and it’s exciting to see how far your Sims have come from having basically nothing.
Of all of your Sims, who is your favorite?
My favorite Sims of all time were actually not in any of my Let’s Plays. They were the first family I ever created in The Sims 2. I got so invested in their lives and even built them a crazy mansion complete with a bowling alley and ice skating rink in their house! I would have them invite their extended family over every Sunday for dinner and they would go shopping or play at the park with their kids on Saturdays. It added a bit more realism to the game (Minus the ice skating rink in the house), which was great.
Of all of the Sims games, what is your favorite lifetime wish/aspiration and/or trait?
I like the silly ones so I’d have to say Eat 200 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches in The Sims 2. That one is just the best!
Do you have any tips for people that are just starting out playing Sims challenges?
Stick to the rules even though it’s REALLY hard sometimes because you’ll feel accomplished once you’re done. Come up with unique stories for your Sims to help you stick with it and occasionally step outside the box. Put an ice skating rink in your house or, if you’re low on Simoleons, just have the occasional family dinner. The little things make a huge difference!
Thank you so much for your time Whitney!

I’d be happy to participate, Pinstar. I’ve been with the Sims from the beginning of time and have every game, stuff pack and expansion pack from then.

I’d be happy to send you the questions Jendowoz!

I’d love to participate as well! I’ve been playing the sims for quite a while, and my wonder child challenge is going in great!

Oh, I’d love to participate, too! I’ve got a Pinstar Legacy and a completed Wonder Child challenge. I thought my Wonder Child score was great until I saw Pinstar’s! (Raise the bar!)

I wouldn’t mind participating, if you need another guinea pig. 😛

I’d be interested in participating too. I like both interviews you’ve posted – good to get to know a bit about the other people playing this game.
