The Sims 1

Challenge Accepted! An Interview with Bsifx0692

Bsifx Interview

Hello everyone, and welcome to another Challenge Accepted! I thought it would be fun to get to know some of the Simmers that play the Legacy Challenge, Wonder Child Challenge, and/or Apocalypse Challenge (and any other challenges that we post here), so I am going to be sending out interview questions to Simmers to learn more about them and how they got into the Sims. If you would like to participate, please let me know!

This week’s Challenge Accepted! features Bsifx0692 a Sims Youtuber and Twitch streamer who focuses on several of the challenges found on this site. Bsifx is currently playing a Legacy Challenge and an Apocalypse Challenge (both for the Sims 4) on her Youtube channel, and also streams Sims 4 challenges on her Twitch channel. Here is what she has to say:

Mystic: When did you start playing The Sims?

I started playing shortly after the release of Sims 1, so that would be 2000. I played Sims 1, 3, and 4 on pc, but played Sims 2 on the Gamecube.

What made you decide to try the Legacy Challenge and/or other player-made challenges for the game?

Initially, while playing the Sims, I would just create a self-sim and live out her life. I rarely got past the second generation before growing bored. For me, Sims was extremely fun, but just didn’t have the staying power of other games. I think the main problem was lack of direction.

I used to be extremely active on Reddit, including lurking the Sims subreddit. I first saw the term “legacy” there, but didn’t realize it was an actual challenge. I created my own sort of legacy that I dubbed the rainbow legacy. Basically, I had a generation with hair in every color of the rainbow. I’m not sure if this can be done with Sims 4 due to lack of color wheel.

I eventually started reading up on various challenges and discovered the official legacy challenge and the rules. Since then I have been trying to complete it, but have only achieved generation 8, due to lost save files.

What is your favorite game and expansion pack for the franchise?

Honestly, despite the lost game issues, my favorite game so far is Sim 4. It’s beautiful and I love the emotion system. Sims 1 was enjoyable but extremely hard. Since I had console Sims 2, I didn’t really get the full experience, and never loved that game. I wanted to love Sims 3, but it crashed with even the best of computers, and all the microtransactions were extremely frustrating.

As far as expansions, I’m not really sure. The Sims 1 pet expansion was probably the most exciting for me. I loved traveling to the pet store and having little kittens and puppies. I think Sims 3 Island Paradise had the most potential, but unfortunately, Isla Paradisio was just too intense and crashed my computer. I couldn’t play any Sims 2 expansions due to the console version.

What is your favorite Sims challenge to Let’s Play/Stream/write about?

So far, my favorite my favorite challenge to publish is the Apocalypse Challenge. I like it because each episode has it’s own unique challenges. Legacies are tons of fun, but get somewhat repetitive playing generation after generation while trying to make the most successful sims possible. Plus, the Youtube commenters are more than ready to point out my mistakes and any rules that I may have overlooked.

Of all of your Sims, who is your favorite?

In Sims 1 my favorite family was by far the Goths. Sims 2 was probably my self-sim and her little family. Sims 3 was my color legacy. They had so many funny and touching moments. Sims 4 is my first legacy founder, Mariposa Azure.

Of all of the Sims games, what is your favorite lifetime wish/aspiration?

Renaissance Sim. It may be one of the hardest to achieve, but I love having a well-rounded sim with multiple skills. Plus all the rewards from different career paths are nifty.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions Bsifx!
