EA has announced that the Sims 4 will be launching in the fall of 2014. This is a bit later than their original plan of “early 2014”, but I’m not really complaining. A later launch date means that they are giving themselves more time for testing which will -hopefully- alleviate some bugs (and we all know the Sims can be a buggy game!).
The game is now also available for pre-order. You can do so either through the official Sims website or through another online shopping site such as Amazon.
One thing about the Sims 4 that has me pretty excited is Emotions. I’m really curious as to how these will play out in the Legacy Challenge. Information on The Sims 4 can be found at Hypable.com.
I really liked the Trait system in Sims 3 and I am glad to see that it will be making it’s return in the Sims 4.
I can’t give any details yet as to how the Legacy Challenge will work in The Sims 4, but I am hoping to get some information out soon. Pinstar is reading through some information now, and will hopefully have something to share with you all soon. It won’t be in-depth rules, but it might be a glimmer of what you can expect when the new game launches.
So now a question for our readers:
What would YOU like to see in the Sims 4 Legacy Challenge? Was there anything specific in the previous challenges that you’d really prefer wouldn’t be in the new one, or maybe something you really loved that you want to see again? We’d love to hear from you!
I signed on to the new Sims 4 message boards to make suggestions, but I’m finding that I don’t have a lot that’s useful. I’m up for anything that makes Sims more lifelike and have more naturally emergent personalities. Also *system performance*. If you took Sims 3, fixed the lag problems, fixed the routing, and improved the load times, I’d be forking over the dough. But according to interviews, EA developers already get the system performance part. Apparently they put a ton of work into fixing routing. Woot!!
I was passionate about Sims 1 and Sims 2 for about one month each. Part of the problem was that I didn’t really grok that Sims base game is really a platform on which to add expansions. But I also really wanted the sims to tell ME what people they wanted to be. Traits and trait-based wishes really made the jump for me. To that end, I’m really excited about emotions. The jump to open world was also huge, and I dig things that expand my sims horizons.
I like the Legacy Challenge’s flexibility. Its simplicity allows you to do it with many different play styles. I guess I’d suggest a built-in point metric for bending the rules. Probably 50% of the Pinstar Legacy Challenge blogs I’ve seen bend at least one rule, and they’re usually the more interesting ones — not because there’s anything wrong with the ruleset, I think, but because a lot of creative people feel the need to make their legacy their own. A way to deduct points for bending rules would give us a way to compare our customized challenges.
Dang. That was a novel.
Oh I am so glad to hear about the pathing issues. It is the bane of my existence in my current Legacy in the Sims 2.
I am also excited about emotions. I’m a huge micromanager in the Sims 2 Legacy and I’m really hoping I don’t have to do that in the Sims 4 haha.
I think that’s a great idea about having some sort of allowance for rule flexibility. I will talk to him about that.
He’s working on a December Sim of the Month right now, so he’ll probably be posting soon about a few things he wants to address with The Sims 4 as well.
I’m super excited about The Sims 4! My main suggestion is along the lines of what Susan said – some cheats should be allowed.
For instance, in the Sims 3 the only lots that are the right amount of money are in Riverview and Sunset Valley. The largest lots that can be bought or placed in other neighborhoods are 64 x 64 and cost only like, $8,400. So i use the familyFunds cheat to lower their money to the requisite $1,300 after i buy the largest lot possible. i also utilize the resetSim cheat and sometimes the moveObjects on cheat for when the game glitches – my sims have a tendency to get stuck or freeze a lot or do weird things in the game, and to be penalized for using glitch-fixing cheats seems a bit much. Sure, giving them money or buying a Genie Lamp, i can understand docking points for that, but i feel like fixing glitches in essential. 😉
Another thing is maybe for those who have issues starting a story or want to be more creative, there could be optional paths or ideas to start with. Maybe the first generation has to remain completely homeless and use showers at public facilities. A homeless shelter could be made in a commercial lot that the family could stay in. Or they could sleep on a bench in their lot. Or maybe the first generation starts out evil – that might be interesting.
That’s all i’ve got for now. Thank you guys for making this website!
Actually the family funds cheat is perfectly legal for that purpose 🙂
Cheats are also allowed to fix a game-breaking glitch if need be. Gonna go make sure both of those things are posted onto the official rules so there is no confusion, can’t believe we missed that, oops!
I like those optional ideas! I’ll mention them to Pinstar!
